God reveals to Moses His name, his power, and his Law
Purpose of Divine Law is to teach us to love God and neighbor
10 Commandments
Have no other gods but God
Do not take the Lord’s name in vain
Keep holy the Sabbath
Honor your father and mother
Do not kill
Do not commit adultery
Do not steal
Do not bear false witness
Do not covet your neighbor’s wife
Do not covet your neighbor’s goods
Two Great Commandments
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and strength
Love your neighbor as yourself
Law guides us away from the two obstacles with God: ignorance & sin
Sacrifices
In general, sacrifices were represented . . .
an offering of oneself to God in covenant
Sacrifice those things that are seen as more important than God (Summum Bonum)
Sacrifice of Communion: Repaired damaged relationships between people
Sacrifice of Atonement: Repaired damaged relationship between people and God
