About Me

I hold a Master of Theological Studies from the University of Dallas' Institute for Religious and Pastoral Studies. God has called me to be a father and to teach, so I now serve through From the Abbey, my catechetical apostolate. Brother Thomas is the persona I created for the moral theology textbook Dear Brother Thomas.

Temperaments

Temperaments: Mostly permanent, inborn dispositions that affect how we interact with the world, especially emotionally

Temperaments are part of our personality: who we are as individuals.

Temperaments are the part our personality that we cannot control easily.  Our character is the part of our personality that we can control.  It is created by our choices.

Phlegmatic:  rarely reacts emotionally.  Slow but steady, cool to the world. Prefers to follow
Choleric:  Never does anything half-way.  Is a doer, and has lots of energy.
Sanguine:  Emotional reactions are quick and strong, but don’t last long.
Melancholic:  quiet and thoughtful.  Emotional reactions are slow, but long lasting.

Temperaments influence our behavior and personality but do not determine (force) them.  We can use our intellect and our will to shape our temperaments so that we maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses.
