- Have a goal in mind, ultimately to find truth
- Know consequences of your thoughts
- Try to stay unbiased
- Know enough about the subject
- Make sure brain is functioning properly - health
- Don’t act on impulse
- Seek sources of information
- Define the problem
- Dig deeper – don’t stick with the first thought
- Get all the information before you make a decision
- Be able to support your theory with evidence
